PREGNANT FEMALE AND HER UNBORN CHILD DIE AFTER SUV SLIDES OFF EB I-70 Around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a Nissan Pathfinder traveling eastbound on I-70 heading toward the Eisenhower Tunnel lost control and went over the side, plunging about three hundred feet to the bottom. Analisette Sapien, an unrestrained, pregnant female passenger in her mid 20’s riding in the back seat was taken to Summit Medical Center were she was pronounced dead. Her unborn child also died. She was seven months along. Two other passengers were taken to Summit Medical Center, and are listed in stable condition. They are identified as 33 year old Zulma Fuller, and the driver, 28 year old Jose Bucio. All of them from Frisco. |

CREWS ANTICIPATE DELAYED OPENING OF INDEPENDENCE PASS The Colorado Department of Transportation typically re-opens Independence Pass on State Highway 82 for the season on the Thursday before the Memorial Day holiday weekend. This year, with the snow pack well above average(160 percent or more in some places), crews have set a new target date for opening the pass: Friday May 30th. Those wanting to travel the pass should be advised that this date could change. If weather conditions don’t cooperate, it could be later. |

ROAD CLOSURE/DETOUR IN BRECKENRIDGE The week of May 12th through the 16th will see Main Street between Wellington and Washington Avenue closed. Southbound traffic will be detoured at Wellington Road and directed to French Street. Northbound traffic will be detoured at Washington Avenue and directed to French Street. There are road closure barricades at both ends and flaggers present as needed. Local businesses remain open during construction. |

CDOT WILL CLOSE ONE LANE OF WB I-70 STARTING 5/12 The Colorado Department of Transportation will close one lane of westbound I-70 at the Silverthorne interchange(mm 205) beginning Monday, May 12th, for expansion joint replacement. The right lane will be closed starting at 7 a.m., remaing closed until noon on Friday, May 16. On Monday, May 19th, the left lane will be closed starting at 7 a.m., remaining closed until midnight on Thursday, May 22nd. Drivers should anticipate delays through the area as the speed limit will be reduced to 45 m.p.h. Both lanes will remain open through the weekend of May 17-18. From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. all WB commercial vehicles over 26,000 GVW will be detoured onto U.S. 6 at exit 216, just east of the Eisenhower Tunnel, then over Loveland Pass. |

DEADLINE APPROACHING TO REMOVE INFESTED TREES The Town of Frisco is asking property owners with trees infested with the Mountain Pine Beetle to remove the trees by May 16th. Trees marked with a pink circle are indentified by the town as infested. In October 2007, the Town of Frisco contracted for a Mountain Pine Beetle survey on all Town properties. The annual survey indentifies lodge pole pine trees that ar infested with the Mountain Pine Beetle. The survey found a total of 4,575 infested trees both on Town-owned and private land. |

EAGLE COUNTY OFFERS SOLAR POWER EFFICIENCY REBATES TO HOMEOWNERS Eagle County is now offering rebates for solar energy systems and insulation upgrades to all homes located within its boundaries. The incentives will help reduce energy costs to homeowners, reduce pollution and greenhouse gas emmissions, generate local, clean, renewable energy and retain capital in Eagle County, including those within town boundaries. TOWN OF SILVERTHORNE ANNOUNCES SLASH SITE DETAILS To assist Silverthorne property owners with their beetle tree removal efforts, the town will provide a fee based slash and chip disposal option this year. Materials collected at the Silverthorne site will be taken to the Climax Mine where they will be used for soil conservation efforts. No site admittance will be provided without a ticket, which may be purchased in advance starting May 9th. Tickets may be bought at the Town Hall or the Silverthorne Recreation Center only. Donation stations are in place at the Post Offices in Breckenridge, Dillon, Frisco & Silverthorne. Also City Market, Safeway, Wal-Mart, Vitamin Cottage and any Breckenridge Free Ride Bus. Non-perishable items only please! Food or staples like diapers, detergent, etc. All items collected go to the Summit County Social Services Food Pantry and The Family & Intercultural Resource Center. |

LOCALS APPRECIATION MONTH MEANS FREE PARKING IN BRECKENRIDGE For the third year in a row, the Town of Breckenridge is recognizing the month of May as ”Locals Appreciation Month” for parking. The 3 hour time restricted areas will not be enforced from Thursday, May 1st through Saturday, May 31st. All other parking rules and regulations, including handicap spaces, delivery zones, etc. will continue to be enforced. Effective immediately, the Tiger Dredge, F-Lot, E. Sawmill and Wellington lots will go to FREE parking for the summer. The Wellington Lot is closed until after Memorial Day because of road work on Main Street. |

EAGLE COUNTY SEEKS INPUT ON TRAFFIC CONTROL Eagle County continues to seek residents’ input as it evaluates the usefulness of speed limits, signs and other traffic control devices in Edwards, Eagle-Vail and other parts of unincorporated Eagle County. The county is evaluating taffic control devices to see if any are unsafe or unnecessary. Results so far have initiated plans for a speed study on Squaw Creek Road and the evaluation of several stop signs in Homestead and Singletree.
