The Summit Consumer and Business Trade Show is a one day event co-sponsored by KYSL-FM, the Breckenridge Chamber, the Summit County Chamber of Commerce, and others. It’s held annually, is free to the public, and attended by approximately 50-75 local businesses; employment and recruitment is a significant activity at the Trade Show. As a co-sponsor, KYSL promotes the Trade Show to drive participation and attendance.
Summit High School Job Fair This event is exclusively sponsored by KYSL, and provides an opportunity for students to learn about careers in broadcasting and job and internship opportunities at KYSL.
Internship program with Summit High School. Working with Laura Dickinson, a career counselor at Summit High School, the station outlines potential job opportunities in the broadcast field, determines needs, and arranges for-credit internship opportunities. The station follows up with students and teachers as the students present their results for grade credit.
The KYSL program director, who recruits and interviews applicants for on-air positions, was given a half day of training by station management to review the Station EEO policies, record keeping requirements, and the need to prevent discrimination in hiring and recruitment. Community outreach and broad based recruitment techniques were discussed.
Summit County Chamber of Commerce hosts social mixers, open to business owners and the public each month. Station personnel attend regularly and discuss recruitment and employment opportunities at the radio station.
Krystal Broadcasting maintains a policy of direct outreach through its staff and business contacts, and encourages direct referral of all qualified individuals, including female and minority applicants.
