A Colorado Broadcasters Association’s award winning station, Krystal 93, seeks an energetic, experienced and organized person to be our next News Director. The position includes daily newscasts, a locally produced community affairs program, local events and sports as well as a strong digital presence with the ability to earn additional income through creative sales opportunities.

Terms: Full time, salary, pay DOE

Krystal 93 is looking for someone take our local news effort to the next level—improve the breadth and depth of our content both on air and online, strengthen existing community relationships, and make Krystal 93 even more of the go to news resource for Colorado’s High Country. The right individual will be a high energy, multi-tasking wizard with a strong work ethic with an interest in generating both community relationships as well as sales opportunities.

Description: The News Director is responsible for creating daily local newscasts, identifying and reporting on news stories in the local community, monitoring other media sources and keeping our local news page and social media accounts current with news and information. The Krystal 93 broadcast area includes 2 counties, 7 world class ski resorts with the largest concentration of skier days in the country, an exploding summer tourism business along with a growing permanent population base.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential News Duties:

-Produce Krystal 93’s daily local newscast

-Report, record and/or edit news spots, interviews, and news features for broadcast

-Post and maintain news content on krystal93.com as well as relevant social media pages

-Organize, host, produce and edit Krystal 93’s weekly community affairs program, The Krystal Conversation

-Provide up-to-the-minute on air and online emergency news coverage when needed

-Engage with the community as a professional, respectful representative of Krystal 93

Other Duties:

-Host an Air-Shift as assigned

-Attend and host remote broadcasts, live performances and interviews as needed

-Assist in the production of commercial spots for advertising clients

-Participate in community outreach and events when needed. Will include occasional nights/weekends

-Assist with office operations: answering phone, public relations, and station tours

-Create, maintain and expand community relationships

-The individual will also have the opportunity to earn commissions on accounts that he or she cultivates

-Attend and participate in all general staff meetings

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Prefer 2 years’ experience in radio and/or print journalism (work samples required)

-Strong interest in local news and public affairs

-Strong verbal and writing skills

-Ability to prioritize tasks, practice effective time management and work independently

-On-air skills and knowledge of broadcast and digital recording equipment

-Computer skills a must (Microsoft Office, email, web); digital editing experience required

-Web and social media skills/experience,
